Missing L4-L5 vertebra with partial paralysis of pelvic limbs. Ilya's litterbox skills are not affected by his paralysis.
Ilya was trapped from a rural property along with his brother Ivan. He is missing a vertebra, which has caused partial paralysis in his back legs. He gets around extremely well, and his neurologist and physical therapist agree he does not currently have any discomfort as a result of his condition.
Ilya is very sweet, loving and has a permanently surprised look on his face.
Ilya will need a very special home where his mobility needs and any future medical needs will be met. He is currently receiving physical therapy, which includes weekly underwater treadmill sessions at The SPAW in aldergrove.
He is currently doing great, and it is likely he will continue to thrive in a home where his environment reduces his risk of injury from a fall. While it is likely he will not have further issues, we can't know for sure whether his malformed vertebra will change as he grows, or cause issues like arthritis several years down the road. His forever family will need the time, will and financial resources to provide for his needs if they change in the future.
We will provide all medical information, neurology report, etc to qualified applicants to ensure everyone is fully aware of his condition and any possibilities for the future.
Ilya is very bonded with his healthy brother Ivan, and we would love to adopt them out as a pair.
